BMW 850 and 840 Storage Armrest®
with Cupholder Option 1990
- 1997
|
|
BIRD Automotive invented
the Storage Armrest at the beginning of the cellular phone era in
1985. Our product for the BMW 850 was introduced in 1990 shortly after
BMW brought the car to market-with no armrest. The factory phone if
present is moved inside the Armrest which is very comfortable for driver and
passenger and provides convenient, attractive, and secure storage for
phones, iPods, PDA's
and other valuables.
|
If
no factory phone is installed the Armrest may be equipped with the popular
Cupholder Option. Armrests pivot up between the seats when not in
use. The 850 and 840 use the same Armrest. The
unit is installed on the center console to the right
of the handbrake with no cutting or drilling required.
The diagram below illustrates the installation. |
| The Storage
Armrest is: |
 |
Designed to blend
into the car's interior with a factory original appearance. It
is installed on the center console to the right of the handbrake in the
location previously occupied by the factory phone. |
|
 |
Upholstered
in leather or occasionally vinyl to match the interior. All
original colors are available. Our weekly production cycle assures quick delivery. |
|
 |
Strong
and secure. The Armrest frame and it's mounting brackets are
made of steel. The hollow compartment is securely
lockable. |
|
 |
Built
to the highest standards. Digitally controlled production equipment
and conscientious old-world craftsmen assure
consistent quality. Our objective is for each Armrest to last as long
as the car in which it is installed. |
|
 |
Installable
by owners who have at least average mechanical ability in about an hour. About half our customers install their own.
Alternatively, BMW dealers and high-end mobile electronics retailers are fully
qualified. |

Warranted
for four years against defects in material and workmanship and sold
with a money-back satisfaction guarantee. |

Cupholder
Option
|
The
Cupholder Option has a pair of adjustable stainless steel
fingers which surround the cup and hold it securely even in panic
stops. It accommodates containers ranging from a quart down to a
can in size. The Cupholder is attached inside the front of the
compartment and when not in use folds up against the front of the
compartment to save space. To use the Cupholder, open the lid all
the way, almost 180 degrees, pivot the Cupholder up and adjust the
fingers to fit the cup. The
bottom of the cup rests on the inside floor of the Armrest on a rubber
pad There is room for a second cup behind the first: it is
constrained on all four sides but not as securely as the first cup.
The Armrest continues to provide some support when the Cupholder is in
use.
Color Matching and Selection
|

|
|
Getting the color of an
Armrest right the first time to match a customer's interior is essential
to our success and we have done this satisfactorily many thousands of times
over the past 15+ years. BMW offered only about six standard colors
for the 850/840 series. Knowing the correct model and year is essential.
Their are two standard greys and two parchments. The charts below should help clarify the color question. If
color is uncertain, the vehicle's original purchase documents or window sticker has the name of
the color or,
provide us with the vehicle identification number (VIN) and we will get the
correct
color name from BMW.
Standard
850/840 colors are: Black; Ultramarine (dark blue); Parchment; Light
Parchment, Silver
Grey and Light
Silver Grey. If color is uncertain, we will send a leather sample
at the time of ordering to confirm the correct color. |
