Bird Automotive Racks Currently Under Development & Future Products.

Thanks for inquiring.  Creating new Racks is part of our DNA and daily effort for three reasons. As new generations of the cars for which we currently offer Racks come to market, we need to create Racks for this next generation.  For example, as the Nissan 350 Z becomes the 370 Z,  or the BMW Z4 roadster evolves to becomes the Z4 hardtop/convertible, we need to engineer a new Rack.  As entirely new car models are introduced which fit our strategy, such as the Honda CRZ Hybrid, we need to create a new Rack.  Additionally, when a prospective customer inquires about a car model for which we have never offered a Rack, we evaluate carefully if this would be a consistent addition to our product offerings and if so, create a new Rack.

Bird Automotive has designed, produced and sold automotive accessories for three decades following a very focused "niche" strategy.  Currently, we make Racks for cars which the major rack manufactures choose to ignore, usually because they are technically difficult to design and have low sales volume potential.

Cars We Are Currently Seeking

Mercedes SLK
Nissan 370Z Coupe
Nissan 370Z Convertible
Infiniti G 37 Convertible
Honda CRZ Hybrid
Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Future Cars

Fiat 500   2012
Toyota Prius V   2012
VW New Beetle  2012

Thus our strategy eliminates most four door sedans and virtually all SUV's and Crossovers.  Our strategy also eliminates specialty very low volume sports cars, so for example, no Ferraris or Lamborghinis.  An exception is that we support a growing number of hybrid cars because they have special rack requirements and because we are committed to environmentally "green" vehicles.  Thus the heart of our product offerings is normal production sports and sporty cars, almost always 2 doors, more often than not convertibles, and, hybrids.  A small niche in which our customers tell us we excel.

Our ongoing challenge is to find a customer with a car model which is new for us who is willing to be "first."  When a prospective customer contacts us we do enough pre-engineering to be almost certain a rack for his or her car is feasible.  Then together we figure out if the car can be left with us for at least two and sometimes three days while we create the Rack.  Historically, it has not been unusual for customers to travel a few hundred miles to meet their unique Rack needs.

We offer a substantial discount on the price of this "first" rack, as much as 50% off, and free installation.  Thus a $450 Rack, $25 Locking Kit, and $150 installation which would normally be about $600 would be bought for less than $300.

The work is done in our shop under my full time supervision, usually over a weekend.  Our shop is insured, secure, sprinklered, located in an attractive and modern light industrial technology park, and convenient to Amtrack,  Interstates 5 and 405 in Orange County, Irvine, CA.  Cars are stored and locked inside. In more than 30 years creating new accessories, we have never damaged a car, failed to complete a prototype installation, delivered a substandard product, or a had a disgruntled customer.
